The name Blackbutt is derived from the appearance of the tree after a bushfire whereby the butt of the tree becomes significantly darker. This species is also known as Coastal Blackbutt.
Blackbutt is generally straight grained with an even texture. It is fire resistant and can be used in bushfire prone areas provided it has a thickness greater than 18mm.
